Violah & Gilbert: International love:30 Dec 2016

Violah: I was hanging out with my half brother on the 25th Dec 2005. Then this guy came and said hi and walked away. On the 26th we attended a football game between Kenya and Uganda, while watching the game this guy turned around and I spotted him, he waved at me and I waved back. On 27th Gilbert decided to stalk me at my place with the excuse of “am looking for your brother” and we exchanged numbers since I was going back to Uganda. On 30th he came to say goodbye and asked if I could be his girlfriend…. I was shocked and scared because he was the first man to ever ask me something like that…I said yes, we should give it a try. I believe in the immeasurable power of love; that true love can endure any circumstance and reach across any distance.
Gilbert: Violah comes across bossy but deep within lies a sweet soul with a kind heart and with time for people. This intriguing attribute is what has kept me in line coz she only has the best interest at heart in all she does as much as she may be unnerved. Even while far away in the US, I just can’t get away from her presence…sometimes even more stronger than when am with her physically.

My relationship with Violah has thrived despite the two of us residing far from each other and as fate would have it, she joined her mum in the US in 2012 just when I was getting comfortable of us being close. Her departure to the US naturally got me shaken and for the first time, I dreaded an end to our relationship. Nonetheless, I resolved to hold on despite all odds being against us.
We’ve journeyed the long distance way weathering same tides that couples who live in the same locality do.

After an odd 4 years…she came over and stayed for two weeks, time during which we worked out plans for our wedding. I have known Violah for 11yrs and she’s the most special thing that ever happened to me. She made my imperfections seem perfect and all my shortcomings appear complete. I don’t know how I’ll ever be able to thank her for everything she has done. But I promise, I’ll never stop trying.

“Distance is not for the fearful, it is for the bold. It’s for those who are willing to spend a lot of time alone in exchange for a little time with the one they love. It’s for those knowing a good thing when they see it, even if they don’t see it nearly enough…”
